In last week’s blog, we outlined some of our top tips to give your website a boost. Here, we continue with our things you can do to improve your website (part 2) list.
Get rid of distractions
Is your website graphic heavy? Are you using lots of animations? If you’ve answered yes to either of those questions, chances are, your website bounce rates are high and conversion rates are low? Why? Because when people land on your website they’re getting distracted and forgetting why they went there in the first place.
Your audience has an average attention span of just 8 seconds, so make sure distractions are limited. Not just animations and graphics, but think about fonts, colours, spacing - making everything as consistent and make it as easy as possible for the reader to find the information they need on your page.
Check for errors
Google are the most used search engine - fact, so you want to keep them onside, right? One of the best ways to do that is to keep them happy. Keep checking, and rectifying your site errors, so Google can re-crawl your site and be happy.
Think about engagement
The comment section on your website… no one actually pays attention to that, right? Wrong! Comments are made by actual people who are visiting your website and asking questions about the content, so they should never be ignored. Engage with these comments- answer the questions, acknowledge the responses people leave - positive or negative. It will show people that your website is being maintained by a real person. Plus, Google and other search engines will boost your SEO score for this and it shows that your website is active.
Keep your software and plugins up to date
If your website runs on software, make sure it’s up to date. Not only will this help to boost site speed (click here to read last week's blog post where we talked about why that’s important) but it’s a vital tool to boost site security and help protect against hackers.
And while we’re talking about security…
It’s important that you make sure all pages on your website load securely. By not doing this, you’re putting your site and your reputation at risk.
While each website is different and might need different kinds of optimisation but these tips can help you to get more traffic to your site and get it looking and working to the best of its ability.
